Traditionally, however, it has always been the male gaze that has interpreted them.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But what happens when a woman interprets femininity?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Mickalene Thomas, an African-American artist born in 1971 in a small town in New Jersey, has shown us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Indeed, the artist declares that there is a gap in art history on the female narrative of the woman&#8217;s body, and in particular the black woman\u2019s body: most works depict white women represented by white men.
