Venice welcomes Anish Kapoor

The Indian artist has arrived in the lagoon and is working for two major events: the inauguration of the solo exhibition at the Gallerie dell’Accademia, which will take place in conjunction with the Biennale Arte 2022, and that of his Foundation whose headquarters will be at Palazzo Manfrin, historic building in the Cannareggio district.

The Foundation, whose construction will take a couple of years anyway and whose project was designed by the Venetian studio FWR Associati and the UNA studio in Hamburg, will be the permanent home of some of the artist’s main artworks and, in addition to the enhancement of Kepoor’s work, it will also engage in the organization of collateral events such as exhibitions, events, workshops, educational spaces.

Inside the foundation there will also be an archive and an atelier.

After all, it is well known that Kapoor – and not only him – is fascinated by Venice, a city that has always been the destination and muse of international artists.

The artist himself, in reference to the exhibition scheduled for 2022, stated:

“ The light and space of Venice and the glories of the Accademia Galleries collection have long been a source of inspiration for me. I have come to love this city and its painters, sculptors and architects and feel honored to have been invited to engage in a visual dialogue with them. I hope I can add something to the vocabulary of color and shape that was Venice’s gift to the world.”
